Backyard that had little to offer.

This is one of (and still to this day, 2017) my favorite transformations. We planted a grove of Bald Cypress trees which are marvelous and stupendous in so many ways. I am so glad the homeowners went along with the vision for these underused trees. We also added a gorgeous specimen Tulip Tree which you see on the left. Gorgeous! Viburnum plicatum tomentosum known for their beautifully held white flowers on horizontal branches. We enlarged the bed and added other plants for color and interest. Thankfully a new patio was done at the same time.

Homeowners needed privacy from house across the street.

We provided that and more. We created a berm to give instant added height and planted Thuja plicata, a deer resistant form of Arborvitae as well as several other shrubs and perennials to complete the design.

Walkway to the Backyard - Before

We planted a perennial bed along one side of the pergolla with a Hydrangea Tree as the focal point.

Overgrown yews, while healthy, did not add much interest to the front of the home.

The yews were pruned to reveal their inner branch structure (sorry this photo is dark and does not fully reveal the exposed 'legs' of the yews) and the other side of the house got a complete makeover.

State of the landscape.

We added shrubs that punctuate the lines of the home while offering multi season interest and color. The beds were also laid out in a geometric pattern of rectangles and squares that compliment the style of the home. A climbing rose, 'Dawn', was planted for upcoming interest and a trellis added for future support.

Overgrown and not a pretty sight.

After and much improved.

This is the other side of the 'not too pretty to look at' bed.

By adding fresh perennials, ground covers and some contrasting shrubs to the original plantings (minus the weeds), and doing some necessary pruning of the two trees, we were able to bring the bed back to a worthy focal point.

This landscape had become overgrown with roots and bindweed (ugh!!) mixed in with existing ground covers. It needed some more visual interest.

We were able to slightly raise the bed, add a beautiful boulder border and new plantings. Once again we worked with some existing plantings and moved others while harmoniously blending in new ones. (Delighted homeowner in the background.)

Another shot of the tired front yard.

The made over front that now compliments the home and provides a visual that is full of color and beauty.

This is a finished landscape after final installation.

And here it is three years later, filling in but not overgrown. |
